How do participants develop use cases for using the NHHIO?

Participants should look to utilize the electronic sharing of information to:

  • Increase care coordination efforts by transmitting structured data elements in care summaries, discharge notes, lab results, history and physicals, and other care documents.
  • Ensure compliance with Meaningful Use objectives for electronic transmission of Transfer of Care summary and public health reporting.
  • Replace traditional point-to-point communications (unsecure fax, mail, etc.) with electronic directed exchange streamlining workflow in the practice setting.
  • Eliminate the creation and management of multiple point-to-point connections for results delivery and information sharing.
